English is a language commonly used in almost all parts of the world, making it a lingua franca. St. Louis College- Cebu plays a big role in developing its’ students’ English Communication skills with the help of the English Drive.

Because of the English Drive, English is used as a medium of oral and written communication upon entering the campus up until 5:30 in the afternoon.

However, English Drive is not observed on some occasions and instances like “Buwan ng Wika” celebration, club meetings, practices, rehearsals and the like.

English Drive is done with the help of the chip circulation, which is monitored by the monitor and English teacher, and the report system. The chip is given to students who: speak vernacular; speak highly ungrammatical English; use Cebuano expressions. The chip is passed around and the last holder per period is given a demerit, which is deducted to his/her given points for English Drive.

The Report System is done by submitting a written report, to the English teachers, of another student speaking in vernacular. The reporter writes the date, time, place, name of violator, words uttered and reporter’s name grade and section in a 1/8 sheet of paper.

English Drive may sound strict to some but it is very helpful to the students especially in the future. In this world with modern communications, English is the way to knowing and understanding everybody.
